Buenos Aires, January 19 (NA) – Estudiantes de La Plata thrashed Ituzaingó 4-0 this Monday, a team from the third division of Argentine football, in a match corresponding to the first round of the Argentine Cup, held at the Florencio Sola stadium. According to information gathered by the Argentine News Agency, the goals for the 'Pincha' were scored by Ezequiel Gayoso into his own net at 7 minutes, Alexis Castro at 14', Facundo Farías at 18', and Guido Carrillo at 42', all in the second half. With this result, the team led by Eduardo Domínguez advanced to the round of 16 of the local tournament, where they will face the winner of the duel between Rosario Central and Sportivo Belgrano. Despite the superiority of the Platense squad, the 'Lion' struggled to find the path to the goal and went into halftime with a scoreless draw. In the second half, Estudiantes' efficiency came to the fore, and in less than 20 minutes, they went up 3-0 in the match, practically sentencing the game and the passage to the next stage of the Argentine Cup. With some luck after a defender Ezequiel Gayoso's attempt to clear the ball, the red-and-whites scored 1-0 following a combination between Santiago Ascacibar and Facundo Farías. The 23-year-old forward tried to play the ball into the center of the area for a teammate's arrival, but the central defender got a touch on the ball and pushed it into the back of the net against a defeated Hugo Acevedo, Ituzaingó's goalkeeper. Just seven minutes later, Eric Meza sent a low cross, and after a series of deflections, the ball fell to Alexis Castro, who opened his foot and applied power to a shot that went under the rival goalkeeper's legs. Later, forward Lucas Alario filtered a great pass for Farías's run, who found himself one-on-one with Acevedo's exit, and the former Colón and Inter Miami player did not hesitate to unleash a powerful shot that broke the 'Verde' goalkeeper's defense to make it 3-0. In the final moments, Guido Carrillo, who came on at 20 minutes into the second half, finished with subtlety over the Ituzaingó goalkeeper to sentence the duel and the classification to the Round of 16 of the tournament.
